What is yoga?

What is yoga?

It’s actually quite curious. We can feel stressed or unsettled in our bodies. Then we do yoga, which is a discipline based on a very ancient tradition, and afterward, the world seems a bit better place.

What does it do to us?

Many of us live life ‘in our heads,’ and we often act with rational decisions as a reaction to what happens around us, what the world around us does. We let ourselves be shaped by others and external factors—rather than what happens in our own body and mind. Some people can live with this without problems, while others reach a point where the world can become distant or difficult to understand. This can affect our mood and body. Many are looking for a space where there is room for who they are – room to feel, and for many, that space starts with yoga.

Yoga is not a space in itself, but it teaches you how to find that space and room within you so that life around you becomes easier to manage.

What does yoga do to us?

Yoga does good.

What your work on the yoga mat can help you with—whether you are in a calm Yin class or a sweaty Vinyasa class—is to practice understanding your body’s signals and learning to respond appropriately to them. Maybe you only have time for a little yoga now and then. Maybe you can practice yoga every day. No matter where you are in your practice, in your space, yoga does you good. Everyone benefits from getting to know their body and mind better.

See you on the mat!
